About

The Cross Guard Podcast is a Catholic podcast that attempts to hit on everything going through the brains of young Catholics. From "How I Date?" to "What is Hell Like?", Thomas, Matthew and Alexander attempt to answer all sorts of questions, theological or practical, through their nonsense, intellectual conversation and quick Google searches. We hope, through your listening to the podcast, you can come to learn just as much as we did making it.

A History of the Podcast

In the fall of 2017, a very politically charged Thomas Mooney wanted to create a political podcast, a means for him to discuss current events and with hopes of beginning a discussion with those whom he disagreed. However, while on a retreat, which would go on to fuel his reconversion, Thomas received a text message from his sister, in which was asked the question: "You have a political podcast, where is your Catholic podcast?". After she pointed out the worldliness of politics, after Thomas realized how negative and confrontational constant political involvement had made him and after a powerful reconversion on the retreat, Thomas scrapped the political podcast. And, thus, the Cross Guard was formed.

The Cross Guard was first imagined by Thomas as a way to help young Catholics learn apologetics and to provide reasoning behind their faith, as Pope St. Peter commands of us in 1 Peter 3:15. Realizing no one wanted to hear him lecture, Thomas reached out to his close friend Alexander to co-host with him. It was then that the two came up with a new goal for the podcast: to discuss the experiences of two Catholic guys, who are challenged in faith by the craziness of life, college, and society. In the podcast, the two explored the important aspects of faith, the challenges facing the youth of today and sprinkles of random topics here and there. However, during their senior year, Alexander had to step down in order to prudently address other responsibilities. So, still deciding not to be a lecturer, Thomas invited his good friend Matthew to come on and take Alexander's place.
